In the name of God Amen. I John Goring of Surry County in Virginia being sick and weak in body but of sound and perfect memory, blessed be God for it, do make appoynt and ordaine this to be my last will and testament in manner and form as following.
Item: I give and bequeath my soule to God that gave it, trusting through the meritorious death and passion of my saviour and redeemer Jesus Christ to receive pardon and remission for all my my sins, and my body to the Earth to be buried in Christian buriall at the discretion of my Executors hereafter named and as for my worldly goods I give in manner following.
Item: I give and bequeath after my debts are paid, all my whole estate of lands goods chattle cattle money debts and credits to me of right belonging or in any wise appertaining to my son Charles Goring and his heires forever, but if it so happen that my said son Charles should not live to some to the age of 21 years or be married, then it is my desire and I do hereby will and bequeath all the lands to me of right belonging or in any wise appertaining to William Holt the son of Mr Randall Holt, late of this county decd and his heirs forever and the remaining part of my said estate to be equally divided betweene the said William Holt and his brother Thomas Holt and their heirs forever. It is my desire and I do hereby request my loveing kinsman Col Charles Morrison to take into his care and tuition my said son Charles and to nurture and bring him up and educate him as he shall think fitt, whome together with my loveing friend Robert caufield I appoynt my full and sole executors to … this my last will informed, revoaking and makeing void and null all former wills by me made, appoynting and confirming this to be my last will and testament.
