The 1870 US Census shows Samuel Minor’s youngest son, Theodore Henry Minor b. 1845, has moved to Henry County/DesMoines County, Iowa, as has Samuel’s oldest daughter, Eliza Douglas Hedden (Minor). Samuel Minor’s probate papers in 1878-1879 indicate he had returned to live alternately with his daughter Eliza Douglas Hedden’s family and his son Theodore Henry Minor’s family in the Henry County, Iowa area in the final years of his life.
Probate:
1878/79: Samuel Minor’s probate papers found in DesMoines, Iowa, show he had returned back east in his final years of his life. According to the probate papers, he alternated living with his daughter Elizabeth Douglas Hedden (Minor)’s family, and his youngest son Theodore Henry Minor’s family.
Probate paperwork confirms 8 of Samuel Minor’s children as heirs at the time he died (either the child was alive, or if the child had predeceased Samuel Minor, they had living grandchildren of Samuel Minor’s). The children listed in Samuel Minor’s probate papers (both ones living at that time, and ones who had prececeased him but had left grandchildren as heirs) were:

9) Samuel Minor Jr – who had been killed by Indians in 1863 in California – he had no known children at the time of his death. (Note: Since Samuel Minor Jr. was dead in 1863 without leaving any heirs, the court would not list him as an heir – and why he is not listed on the probate paperwork).
10) Louisa Minor b. 1827 – (Note: Documents do not confirm what happened to Louisa. We can assume that she was dead at the time of probate in 1879 since she was not listed, and that she never had any children. The only document that lists this particular Louisa Minor b. 1827 is the 1850 US Census. It appears she died some time between 1850-1879 without any children.
