The poll tax of $1 applied to every white male over 21 and to women who were heads of households in the state, according to “Poll Lists for 1846, Republic of Texas,” by Marion Day Mulline.

WALKER COUNTY, TEXAS

Mrs. Helen Goens, white, married, school teacher, was killed in an automobile wreck in Madison County, Texas June 4, 1934, according to Walker County, Texas death records. Helen Goens died of a brain concussion at Huntsville, Texas. Helen Goens, the daughter of Frank Strange, a native of Texas, and Mildred Moore Strange, also a native of Texas, was born May 26, 1900. She was buried at Cleburne, Texas, according to Jerry Moore, Rio Vista, Texas, informant.

Elizabeth Gowen was the second wife of James Thompson who was born March 16, 1781 in North Carolina, according to “War of 1812 Veterans in Texas” by Mary Smith Foy. He died October 16, 1856 and was buried in Huntsville, Texas. He was a sergeant in Capt. Jack F. Cocke’s Company of Volunteer Riflemen attached to a regiment of Georgia Militiamen. They were maried after 1832.

On March 7, 1974 he received an assignment from E. L. Tuxhorn to B&B Miniature Golf, according to Ward County Deed Book 376, page 470.

They also received a warranty deed from J. E. Farr November 17, 1971 to a lot in Monahans, according to Ward County Deed Book 355, page 401. A. S. Goings also received a warranty deed from John Lest Petteit, Jr., on February 28, 1973 to a lot in Monahans, according to Ward County Deed Book 370. Page 56.
