1815 Nov 25 – Knowing that by part of certificate No. 15 dated the 13 day of July 1807, obtained from the board of commissioners from West Tennessee by Joseph Martin, and entered on the 16 day of May 1808 by No 427. Andrew W Gowan assignee of Joseph Martin fr St of Tenn no 3114, vol J, p 100. 40 acres. On Elk Riv fractional sec no 3. 6624 . . . at the foot of Cumberland Mountain, surveyed Nov 25, 1815. Proved up on Jan 26, 1816. Registered on June 26 1816. 1821 Feb 24 – John M. Gowan, “of the County of Franklin” deeded 10 acres of land to Roswell Hall of Rhea County, Tennessee February 24, 1821, according to Franklin County Deed Book A, page 23. The land lay “between the town of Jasper and the creek formerly known as Hudson Creek.” This area was later included in Marion County, Tennessee. (See Gowen Manuscript info below).

1832 June 4 – Levi Gown was appointed to a road committee June 4, 1832, and in May 1838, according to Franklin County Court Minute Book, page 38.  (See Gowen Manuscript info below).

1838 Aug 13 – H W Goyne bill of sale to Peter Lenchan. fpr Violet a negro girl about 11 years old, a slave for life. Winchester Tennessee – Aug 13, 1838. Recd of Peter Linchan four hundred dollars in full consideration for a certain negro girl named Violet about 11 years old which negro I warrant to be sound and healthy and a slave for life, the right of which I also warrant to said Lenchan his heirs and assigns from and against myself my heirs d against all just claims whatever. 1838 Oct 6 – H W Goyne bill of sale to Henry Raines for a slave for life about 16 years old. Recd of Henry Rains seven hundred dollars in full for a certain negro girl named Ann about 16 years old which I warrant to be sound and healthy and a slae for life, the right of which I also warrant to him the said Rains his heirs . . . “Gown & Gown” paid an advalorem tax on 110 acres, ac­cording to the 1890 tax list of Franklin County. Mrs. Mattie Gown paid an advalorem tax on a three-acre town lot in 1890.
