1654 July 16 – Robert Chipsham merchant maketh oath that William Wright of Popler Hill in this Province of Maryland did agree to pay unto him this Depont 1650 pounds of Tobacco and Caske after the then Next Season present pay for a Servant which the Said Wright bought and had of him about Eight weeks Since, of which Tobacco the Said Wright hath Since paid one hogshead weighing lesse than 300 pounds Neate Tobacco the Remainder of the Said 1650 being Still unpaid though often demanded Since the Season or time of Strikeing Tobacco before Mentioned,
And this Deponent further Upon his oath Saith that for want of the Said Remainder the Merchants by whom this Deponent is Employed in tradeing hither will be lyable upon the Ship’s return for England to pay Dead fraight after the rate of forty Shillings a hogshead and further Saith not

The following entries for James Chisholme in St Marys Co, MD tell us several things. First, James Chisholme is married to Elinor. They both performed their “time of service” in Maryland and were owed 50 acres of land as their headright. This means they had been in Maryland at least 4 years at this time, arriving in Maryland by 1663 or before.
1667 Oct 26 – James Chisholme of St. Mary’s County, MD planter, husband of Elinor Chisholme, assigns rights for 100 acres for both he and wife to Marmaduke Simms.
Came James Chisholme of St Maries County planter and proved right to 50 acres of land for his time of service performed there with he assigneth the followeth (with his wife’s right).
Know all men by these presents that I James Chisholme of the County of St Marys in the Province of Maryland planter for a valuable consideration received of Marmaduke Simms of the same County carpenter have assigned and set over unto the said Marmaduke all my right title and interest of in and to 100 acres of land due to me for the time of service performed by me the said James and Elinor my wife …

Wittnesseth that the said Henry Denton for and Consideracon of 8000 Pounds of Tobacco to him in hand Paid before the Ensealing and delivering of these Presents by the said James Chisholm well and truely paid the Receipt whereof hee the said Henry Denton doth hereby Acknowledge and himselfe therewith fully sattisfied Contented and paid thereof and of every part and pcell thereof doth fully Clearly and absolutely Acquitt Discharge Exonerate & Releas the said the said James Chisholm his Heires Executors & Admrs for Ever and by these Presents hath

Witnessed that the said Stoddert by his deed made 18 Aug. 1746 conveyed to George Gordon a tract at south end of 600 acres, part of the “Dividend,” belonging to Benjamin Stoddert, or of a tract called “Friendship,” being originally granted to Thomas Addison and James Stoddert gentleman, deceased; and whereas the said George Gordon by deed executed 22 December 1750 conveyed the above 400 acres of land unto James Dick attorney in fact of William Black, merchant in London, for uses and purposes mentioned in said deed; and the said George Gordon and James Dicks by their deed executed 3 Oct. 1752 made over said tract of 400 acres to Henry Threlkeld, now this indenture witnesses that John Chisholm and Sabina his wife, widow of Benja. William Voice, a planter by trade, about 45 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, of a swarthy complexion, has a mole on his right cheek, black eyes, some scars on his face, on his right arm the representation of a crucifix, with the figures 1760, and the two first letters of his name, put on with Indian Ink: Had on, and took with him, a Dutch cap, a buff coloured cloth upper jacket, with round top’d yellow metal buttons, a light coloured brown under ditto, a fine linen shirt, much patched, a coarse linen one, much wore, a pair of osnabrig trousers, a pair of worn white yarn stockings, a pair of turn’d pumps, almost new, and carved yellow buckles; he took with him Two plastering trowels, and one mason’s ditto, with a lathing hammer; he is insinuating fair spoken fellow when sober, but when drunk (which he will be if he can get Liquor) is impudent, noisy, and turbulent,
Henry Greefes, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, of a redish complexion, is a slow spoken fellow, and sometimes stammers in his speech: (Description of his clothing he had on).
NB They stole a pair of plain silver sleeve buttons, a pair of carved plate buckles, and Indian Blanket, two bridles, and will probably steal two horses. William Voice has a forged pass, by which he will endeavor to pass for a free man, by the name of William Brown. Whoever takes up the said Runaways, and delivers them to the subscriber, or secures them in any jail, shall receive 40 shillings reward for each.
