The following are the early Gowen/Going/Gowings that arrived in the Americas.
First Generation (b. 1604-1635): This generation of Goings appear to have been born between 1604-1635. The only people out of the “First Generation” of Gowen families that we know who their descendants are are the ones from Maine and Massachussetts. The rest of them from Virginia and Maryland do not have records that confirm who their descendants were – so it is not possible to say for any certainty that anyone “definitely” descends from any of these particular people. We can speculate and make educated guesses, but the records do not bridge the gap unfortunately.
Second Generation (b. 1640-73): Thomas Going of Stafford Co, Va coming from MD appears to be the only person in this list that has some circumstantial evidence showing who his descendants were in the Virginia area.
Third Generation (b. 1671-1701): This generation of Going families starts to have records that start to connect them to descendants in the Virginia area.
Fourth Generation (b. 1693-1723): This generation of Going families has the records that appear to be able to connect them with effort to their descendants – not always, but often.
