Bland Family Information:
MY RELATION to the BLAND FAMILY:
Doshea Bland (daughter of Edward Bland).
Note: My interest in the Bland family is through my 5xg grandfather, Elijah Going b. abt. 1770 (Goyen) who was maried to Doshea Bland (daughter of Edward Bland – will in Chester County, SC around 1797). Elijah Going died in 1807, and Doshea then remarried to a John Plaxco. Doshea Bland is my 5xg grandmother, and Edward Bland is my 6xg grandfather.
I had a “brick wall” for a long time with my 3xg grandfather William Goyen (1827-1864) – and Doshea Bland Goyen Plaxco’s records helped break through that wall … along with help from a box of letters saved at the University of Texas from author William Goyen (1915-1983)(who was married to actress Doris Roberts – of Everybody Loves Raymond)… and letters from another researcher Nan Hoos who graciously shared family letters her grandmother had saved over the years.
Elijah Going and Doshea Bland Goyen had at least two known children – Sarah Going b. abt 1800, and Drury B. Going b. abt 1805.
Doshea Bland and John Plaxco had at least 1 child, Elvira Docia Plaxco who married Thompson McCluney.

1793 Oct 29 Theodrick Bland pension application by Martha Blodget... former widow…
To the Hon the Speaker and Members of the Gen Assembly the petition of Martha Blodget respectfully sheweth –
That as relict and widow of the late Col. Theodrick Bland she is possessed of certain Certificates for which amounts to 296 bushels which were furnished by the said BLand for use of the public. That her said husband never received compensation for the same, to which she now thinks herself justly entitled. your petitioner further sheweth that the reason of this late application arises solely from the long absence of her deceased husband in the Service of his Country – to which Service he at last fell a victim. That during his live, leisure was not afforded him to have the said Certificates adjusted. Your petitioner begs leave to show further, that the said Theodr Bland gave his Bond to the Treasurer for the refund of the sum of 100 pounds, which by a Resolution of the Gen Assembly was advanced on the part of this State to each of its Members in the first Congress under the present Federal Govt – which Bond the Auditor of Public Accts threatens to put in Suit. As she conceives the Certificates for wheat will almost if not wholly discharge the said Bond, she humbly prays that the Auditor may be directed to credit the said Bond the amt of the said Certificates or that the Hon. house would take her case into Consideration and grant relief, etc. https://revwarapps.org/VAS1859.pdf

1797 Oct 12 – Edward Bland will – Doshea Bland is identified by her father, Edward Bland, in his will dated October 12, 1797. The will is probated on June 9, 1800. Edward Bland identifies the following family members in his will: His beloved wife Frankey, his beloved son William Bland, his two daughters, Dosha and Elizabeth, his wife Frankey and his son in law George Plaxco were appointed as executors of the will. The will was witnessed by William Bland and James Plaxco. It appears that Elizabeth was the daughter that married George Plaxco. Dosha married Elijah Goyen, but she remarried to John Plaxco after Elijah Goyen died.

“Chester County (SC) Equity Bill #105, frames 128-136, Joseph Reid vs. John Plaxico and others.” It is a writ of partition, with some of the papers dated 1823 but most are dated 1824. The writing is very difficult to read. This is an abbreviated transcription:
