1892, 1915 Some records were lost.  (Note:  The Deed records prior to 1892 are not available on FamilySearch, so may have been destroyed …. Probate records start at 1893 so again, may have been destroyed.  Fortunately the Gowens received many land grants, so there are records in the US Bureau of Land Management for those patents, and one of the patent books for Smith County survived as well).

(Note:  The above Jesse Gowens is a son of John Gowen of Robeson/Columbus County, NC (along with the other Gowen families in Smith County).  John Gowen was born about 1774-1780.  Jesse would have been born close to 1805-1815.  It appears that Jesse may have had his parents John Gowen and Edith Faulk Gowen living with him at the time of the US Census in 1840).
