Berry Goins was born in 1800 in South Carolina of parents unknown. An earlier Littleberry “Berry” Goins appeared in the legal records of Henry County, Virginia during the colonial period. It is known that he left the area shortly after the Revolutionary War. “Berry Goins” was listed as a tax defaulter in Burke County, Georgia, just across the Savannah River from South Carolina in 1790 and in 1796, according to the “Augusta Chronicle” in its edition of October 22, 1796. “Berry Goyn” drew a lot in the Cherokee land lottery of 1827 in Georgia. He was awarded land in 1835 in Upson County, Georgia.
Berry Goins was married about 1824 to Nancy Brown, perhaps in Georgia. She was born in 1805 in South Carolina. He was enumerated as the head of a household in the 1840 and 1850 census returns of nearby Russell County, Alabama. Berry Goins and Nancy Brown Goins are mentioned as residents of adjoining Lee County in “History of Opelika, Alabama,” by Rev. L. C. Cherry.
Henry Goins is suggested as a son of Berry Goins and Nancy Brown Goins by Frances Fleming, a descendant of Carthage, Missouri. Henry Goins was born in 1824 in South Carolina and was married about 1842, wife’s name Elizabeth. They lived in Alabama in 1842 and 1845 and had removed to Mississippi by 1846. They were enumerated in the 1850 and 1860 census of Chickasaw County, Mississippi:

Martha J. Goins, daughter of Henry Goins and Elizabeth Goins, was born in 1842. “Martha J. Goins” was married December 5, 1858 to Samuel Burris in Knoxville, according to Knox County, Tennessee marriage records.
Nancy A. Goins, daughter of Henry Goins and Elizabeth Goins was born in Alabama about 1844, according to the research of Frank and Frances Fleming of Carthage, Missouri. She appeared as a five-year-old in the 1850 enumeration of her father’s household. Family tradition claims that she had “Indian blood.” She was married about 1860, probably in Chickasaw County to Montgomery Dickinson Parker who was born March 8, 1834 in Washington County, Tennessee. He enlisted in a Mississippi infantry company in adjoining Monroe County early in the Civil War. He appeared on the tax roll of Chickasaw County in 1867, 1869 and 1873.

L. J. Goins who was born in Alabama in 1844 and his wife Mary Ann Renfro Goins who was born in Alabama in 1850, were residents of Phenix City, Alabama where he was employed as a textile worker in 1877.

John Love Goins, fourth child of L. J. Goins and Mary Ann Renfro Goins, was born at Phenix City December 4, 1877, according to Navarro County, Texas Birth Book 18, page 76. He was married about 1900 to Pearl Sterling who was born in Texas in 1883. In 1904 John Love Goins and Pearl Sterling Goins were residents of Corsicana, Texas where he was employed as a textile worker at a cotton mill.
John Love Goins, an employee of Corsicana Cotton Mills, was listed in the 1922 city directory of Corsicana rooming at 714 East 8th Street. For the next 16 years he continued with the firm, working up to foreman. In the 1924 edition he roomed at 718 South 11th Street. In 1938 he lived at 2040 South Main Street. In 1951 he lived at 116 North 12th Street.

Shirley Daniel Goins, first child of John Love Goins and Pearl Sterling Goins, was born at Corsicana April 19, 1904, according to Navarro County Birth Book 18, page 75. Shirley Daniel Goins, a machinist apprentice was employed by American Well & Prospecting Company and boarded at 714 East 8th Avenue, the address given by John Love Goins, according to the 1922 city directory. He was married June 23, 1927, to Irene Prewitt, a native of Mississippi who was born in 1908, according to Navarro County Marriage Book 27, page 490.
In 1928 Shirley Daniel Goins and Irene Prewitt Goins lived at 309 East 12th Avenue, according to the Corsicana city directory. In the 1931 and 1936 editions he was listed as a machinist for American Well & Prospecting Company. In 1936 he lived at 900 South 18th Avenue. In 1938 Shirley Daniel Goins, an engineer, Irene Prewitt Goins and two children lived at 619 South 14th Avenue. From 1947 through 1958 he was listed as a plant superintendent for Bethlehem Supply Company, living at 208 Southeast 31st Street.
In 1960 and 1961 he was listed as operations manager for Bash-Ross, an Odessa, Texas firm, still living at 308 Southeast 31st Street. From 1963 through 1969 he was listed as one of the owners of Goins-Weatherby Ford Sales, Corsicana, living at 208 31st Street. In 1969 he lived at 1105 Woodcastle Drive.

In 1946 he was listed as a student at Southern Methodist University. He was married to Laura Jean Cox June 12, 1954, according to Navarro County Marriage Book 36, page 294.
John Daniel Goins, a construction worker for A. A. Cox, contractor, and Laura Jean Cox Goins lived at 403 North 37th Street, Corsicana, according to the 1956 city directory. He continued with the firm through 1969. From 1958 through 1969 they lived at 1420 Princeton Drive, Corsicana.
