1834  [p 4: On September 24, 1853 in Nelson County Virginia, Landon S. Gowing, 87, gave testimony that he was well acquainted with John Massey from some short time after the close of the revolution; that he was with Massey when he died about the year 1800; that he was living near
John Massey when he, Massey, married Susanna Wright on or about January 1st 1779. The affiant said he was measured for enlistment in the service but was found to be “too low” and therefore did not fight in the revolution. He signed his affidavit with his mark.]
