John Looney Goines later moved to Montgomery County. His wife apparently died there because he received a deed from Conroe Memorial Cemetery to a cemetery lot March 28, 1950, according to Montgomery County Deed Book 296, page 139.

On August 26, 1951, John Looney Goines, a resident of Conroe, Texas was married to Myrtle Mae Sims, according to Montgomery County Marriage Book 20, page 534.

On September 4, 1954 John Looney Goines and Myrtle Mae Sims Goines received a general warranty deed to Lot 71, Crystal Creek Estates, according to Montgomery County Deed Book 381, 186.

John Looney Goines wrote his will July 5, 1955. He died at the age of 64 May 26, 1960 of a coronary occlusion at Conroe, according to Montgomery County Death certificate 5655. He was buried in Conroe Memorial Cemetery. Myrtle Mae Sims Goines was named executrix of the estate valued at $5,000, according to Montgomery County Probate Book 75, page 74.

Myrtle Mae Sims Goines sold Lot 71, Crystal Creek Estates to H. B. Burke July 1, 1964, according to Montgomery County Deed Book 573, page 314. On the same date she received title to some lots in Syndicate Addition, according to Deed Book 571, page 12 from H. B. Burke.

On April 30, 1972 they received a warranty deed from Lewis M. Gove to Lot 4, Block 5, Mineola Woodlake Estates, according to Wood County Deed Book 651, page 550. On May 24, 1972 they sold the lake property to Claborn E. Melton for $3,000, according to Wood County Deed Book 653, page 362.

The couple was divorced in May 1974 and James Nelson Gowan received a warranty deed from Barbara Jane Gowan to Lots 2, 3, 4, Block 41, Ham Addition, Mineola, Texas in the settlement, according to Wood County DeedBook 681, page 1.

On May 25, 1975 Barbara Jean Gowan was remarried to Lewis Freeman Kindle, according to Wood County Marriage Book P, page 610.

Frank Gowan was listed as a teamster residing at 448 North Sixth West in the 1890 Salt Lake City city directory.

Charles Shields Gowans was born September 17, 1923 at Salt Lake City, Utah. He was graduated with a BA degree from the University of Utah in 1949. He was married in 1950. He received his PhD degree in 1957.

Later he was a professor of genetics at the University of Missouri, Columbia, Missouri in the botany department. His household included his wife and one child.

TOOELE COUNTY, UTAH

Andrew Gowans was born in South Carolina about 1800. He, a laborer, age 60, was enumerated as the head of Household 2-2 in the 1860 census of Tooele City, Utah. He owned $75 worth of real estate and had $200 worth of personal property. He reappeared in the 1870 census of Tooele City with $500 in real estate and $200 in personal property.

Hugh Gowans, perhaps a son of Andrew Gowans, was born in South Carolina about 1832. He, a laborer, age 28, was enumer­ated nearby to Andrew Gowans in the 1860 census of Tooele County. He showed $100 in real estate and $200 in personal property. He reappeared in 1870 as the head of a household at age 37 as a farmer. He showed no real estate and no personal property.

Ephraim Gowans, son of Hugh S. Gowans and Betsy Gowans Gowans, was born at Tooele, Utah, February 1, 1868. He was married to Mary Crisman Lyman of Salt Lake City June 1, 1893. He received a B. S. degree from Brigham Young College in 1894. He received an M. D. degree from Baltimore Medical College in 1897. He was professor of zoology at Utah Agricultural College from 1897 to 1899. He was professor of anatomy at the University of Utah from 1900 to 1906. From 1919 to 1922 he was State Director of Health Education for the state of Utah. In 1926 he was listed in “Who’s Who in America.” He officed in Desert Bank Building, Salt Lake City. He was a Mormon. He was a Judge of Juvenile Court, Salt Lake City from 1906-1909. He was superintendent of State Industrial School in Ogden, Utah from 1909 to 1919. He was a lecturer in education hygiene at the University of Utah. He lived in Buckingham Apartments in Salt Lake City in 1966.
