Alabama – Crenshaw County

James G. Goins was born about 1867 in Alabama and lived most of his life in Crenshaw County, according to to Kenneth R. Jones, a great-grandson of Southaven, Mississippi. He wrote February 13, 1995 that James G. Goins was married to Laura Crysell and that they had nine or ten children. He suggests that the mother of James G. Goins was a Harrison. Laura Crysell Goins died in 1911 and was buried at Honorville, Alabama in Crenshaw County. James G. Goins died in 1949 in adjoining Butler County, Alabama.
Margaret Goins was born in 1822, place and parents unknown, according to a letter written in 1994 by Rex Addison, a great-great grandson of Altha, Florida. She was married about 1840 to Lewis W. Bryant who was born in 1820. He died in 1864, and she died January 9, 1903 in Crenshaw County and was buried in Panola Methodist Church Cemetery. Children born to them include: Mary Ann Bryant, born April 30, 1857. She was married about 1876 to William Henry Davis, born February 22, 1851 to Franklin Wesley Davis and Mary Tabitha Schofield Davis who were married March 9, 1848 in Pike County, Alabama. Mary Ann Bryant Davis died September 26, 1920, and he died July 18, 1934.
Willie Goins died November 22, 1920 in Crenshaw County according to Alabama Death index, volume 43, role 2, page 211990.
Jim Gowens was recorded as the head of a household in the 1900 census of Crenshaw County, Enumeration District 42, page 14:

“Gowens, Jim 30, born in October 1869 in AL
Jim 9, born in May 1891 in Alabama
Millie 8, born in April 1892 in AL
Ora 6, born in January 1894 in AL
Annie 2, born in April 1898 in AL
Marcus 4, born in February 1896 in AL”
James S. Gowins died April 19, 1911 in Crenshaw County according to Alabama Death index, volume 4, certificate 401, role 1.
Laura Gowins died February 25, 1911 in Crenshaw County according to Alabama Death Index, volume 4, certificate 402, role 1.
